Most shops I've been to, including Two Seasons have their boards sans plastic. I would still class them as brand new. It's not as if you can strap it on and ride it in store. It should however not be heavily scratched, but not everyone is careful when handling the goods, but this should have been said when ordering.

New boards should be in perfect condition - sometimes they're wrapped in a sort of stick-on plastic, other times they will be in a sheath of plastic. They should have factory wax. It sounds like this one has some damage from the shop. I'd say that's irrelevant beyond the first 2 minutes, but that doesn't mean that the shop can sell a "shop soiled" board as a new board... they have to tell you about the damage even if it's cosmetic.

So assuming you described things correctly then you're probably entitled to a refund or replacement. If you bought it with a credit card you're in the best possible position. As the retailer seems to be in error I'd say they should be paying any shipping costs.

I'd think first, then contact them. You need to be sure you're correct in that you bought a new board, discounted only because it's a year old. Then decide what you want ... do you want them to swap it for what it should have been, or do you want a discount? Chances are they don't have a pristine board (or they'd have sent it to you), so you may be offered a discount, or a full refund. If they play hard ball then you'll not get better than a full refund, so you may want to negotiate carefully. Bear in mind that cash discounts are more expensive to them than the equivalent in goods.

I'd be nice to them, let them explain it's just a bit of confusion, and see what they offer.

I think Bob could be right - it sounds like an ex-display. If it is then it should have been sold as such with a discount. If you buy it new it should be in mint condition - regardless of whether it will get scratched shortly after use or not

yep i recon your right bob.

i was thinking that too, however i've seen a fair few display models that look very scratched up and the good thing i guess is that this looks nothing like that at all. i suppose this is what triggered my origional question coz at least you would know either way. a lot of scratches or none at all
when you have a shiny new looking board with maybe 2 unusual scratches you notice that a lot more than the other cenario i guess

thanks for you replys mate... i think a polite call is in order

Is it possible that it's an ex-display model?

Without seeing the scratches I wouldn't like to comment... I wouldn't expect to see any scratches at all on a new board. The condom should protect it during transit and drop damage on a board it clearly different to scratch damage...

Might be worth a polite phone call to ask whether it was branded new or whether is has bend handled.

If there are stickers on the base it's never been ridden.

cheers bob,

yep your right, but you would feel a right plumb if you "over did" the complaining bit and then everyone on here said "it happens and iis to be expected"

i was not there when it came, but was told that it was not bubble rapped? just in a "Forum"? cover and in a box?
i should add that it has all the labels and info stickers on as if new...
if it was indeed "not" new would the shop by law have to tell you so before ordering?. hey im pretty sure its new but the scratches are there and i wondered what the cut off point for you more experienced guys and girls would be in accepting an item
e.g what would you happily except and when would that go too far?

cheers
Andy.

When I've bought brand new boards they come wrapped in plastic. There have therefore been no scartches (that I've noticed) on the base or top sheet.

As you've said you're not sure that it was brand new... and it is true that after you've used it for the first time some damned skier is gonna stand on it/ scratch it with their poles or another board is gonna chip one of the ends! (it's sods law of riding a new board).

If you are happy with it that's all that matters. If you're not contact the shop.

hi guy's and girls,

a friend just ordered a "new" board online from a reputable shop, now although it was not listed as "New"it was this seasons Burton feather and was not listed as "used" either. it arrived with a few small (in length) but a little deeper than just surfice scratches on the top sheet and a few little (in depth) but longer in length marks on the base..

my question is:-

a) is this to be expected when boards are delivered by post? or would you be unhappy about this kind of thing?
b) when buying sale items at this time of year, would it mean that "left over" stock is "prone" to having a few knocks and scratches?

i understand that after a couple of runs in the dome it will probably end up that way or worse anyway, but it would be nice to open up something you have paid for and be happy looking at that shiny new (ooow she was so excited) first board.

any advice would be great.
thanks in advance

Andy.
