QUOTE (rookie - 07/08/2008 @ 12:26:37) mini rookie (aka poppy - aged 4) has been skiing for a year - first 'started' when she was 2 1/2 but it was literally putting trainer skis on, walking around a bit, little run down for like 2 seconds and thats it. then season just gone (she was 3 1/2) started with one-on-one lessons, an hour a day. This was probably over 3-4 weeks. Now she can ski & rode the glacier with us this summer. Coming season she'll have a couple of one-to-ones, some ski school and come out with us. From experience, main thing seems to be dont push at all when they're tiny, get them used to the cold (Poppy first went to the mountain aged 6 months so loves it now), kit them out well and expect them to be truly nacked after an hour or so. heres the little blighter: I love seeing the little people bombing around on the slopes!! Makes me chuckle every time!! |

A friend of mine is an instructor and taught a 2 year old to ski once. The problem more so was finding gear to fit. I seem to recall they padded out the boots with extra socks. |

| Most snowsports schools start with skiing at 3. Snowboarding isn't usually taught till 6/7 years of age. My little one is 3 in February and I'll be putting him into ski school in late February/early March. He's already been on the teleripherique and up on the mountain and loved it. |

Hi All,
I have just been blessed with a fantastic Beautiful daughter
my question is this, how long should i wait before i take her to the mountains to get her hooked on snowsports?
thinking that she will need to start on skis which is fine, but how old before she will be able to start to learn?
i suppose this is a selfish thing really because until i can get her on the slopes it will severly curtail my time in the mountains.
anyone out there had the same conundrum? |
