The gadget show did ne of there trails on tough cameras, have to say from what I remember the 2 compacts were incredible, high temps, low temps, dragged along the ground at 40 mies an hour, boiled in a geyser... you get the idea, cant remember the makes but you could check out the gadget show web site, got to agree with one of the other posts though, let the big guys make the cameras and work on some generic carrying methods an clip ons for sports use, sounds like a good project you got going on though  |

I was thinking about this the other day. My 7 year old 3 megapixel Olympus is a chunky beast but it's also indestructable. The batteries last no time at all, and 3MP is slightly limiting, but other than that it's perfect. Pictures are well-exposed, lens is sharp. All good.
If it could be bumped up to modern specifications it would be great, I.e. 5-6MP (no more than that please!) and a decent battery life, as long as it was still indestructable. Modern cameras all tend to be small, overly shiny and very destructable...
I like the idea of being able to use through gloves/googles but I don't see it working. With my gloves the button would have to be at least 3cm diameter.
Also it should be available in a dark red. |

Housing which removes the vibrations/shake when travelling at high speed so you can follow someone with the use of both hands. And make it small...
...perhaps laser guided locking or camera lens keeps steady by following heat or a microchip on the target  |

Clip on the back so you can clip it to your back-pack straps rather than having to fumble into pockets. See the Motorola T5522 walkie-talkie clip design - almost perfect as it's removable, snaps into the radio casing and has a kind of a "one way" clip design so it stays on the strap.
As it's then exposed out of your pockets, slam-proof please. No snap-off flaps or spring-loaded battery ejectors.
Fast start up and glove-friendly basics "on/off/zoom/snap".
Bluetooth might be handy too. Get photos to your phone so you can send them and wireless downloads to laptops or in-resort photo printers. |

| How about you design the perfect camera housing instead? Think like an underwater one only for boarding and then you could integrate stuff like big buttons, an insulated battery back-up, extra shock protection, water resistance and a sun visor? |

Throw in a large-ish (without it looking retarded) shutter release button so you can operate it easily through gloves... as below - all the element proof features. You could also throw in some handy technology that somehow dims the contrast on the back screen when you look at it in bright sunlight...
Oooh, the power button/switch should also be large/easily operated... the only reason I get wet hands boarding these days is having to take a glove off whilst riding to pull out my cam/get it ready to shoot etc...
It could also have a nice chunky hand grip (detacheable) to keep it steady when riding along (I'm talking video modes here of course)... |

| maybe with some sort of case/cover that helps keep it slightly warmer so the batteries dont go flat as quick ? |
