Yeah, I go through the thin gloves too; they don't last long and they don't work well in minus 30. My only tip is to use big mitts on the outside, and tie them onto your wrists like when you were a sprog, so you can dump the mitts quickly, shoot wearing the thin liners, and then get warmed up inside the mitts again.
You don't in my opinion want waterproof *liners*; you shouldn't be getting much water in there (only 5% finest powder occasionally ;-) ). Goretex outers work pretty well of course.
I do use the Sealskinz socks for AK in summer, those are pretty good but not useful for snowboarding I think. |

I haven't tried these but i do use their socks for mountain biking and commuting and they really are waterproof (check the reviews of the socks for how much cyclist love them)
sealskinz waterproof merino gloves
We were with someone last year who learnt to board in a pair of sealskinz gloves (she was a TA type so already owned them) and she had no probs. Not sure how bulky these particular gloves are tho |

I really recommend the Burton pipe gloves, they have sticky palms and are neoprene backed for warmth. I use them for everything from camping, canoeing, dog-walking to driving my frezing land rover. Get them as fitted as possible, i can still fish change out of my jeans pockets without taking them off. I've worn them under larger gloves for photography in the mountains, and they worked great. I use a Canon 350D with a fat-ass 300mm zoom; no problems. Just got myself a replacement pair, i've gone for the Black Diamond Torque http://www.bdel.com/gear/torque.phpwhich is a dry tool climbing glove - very sticky palmed but a tad thinner than the Burtons. Not sure if i'll be able to ride in them alone yet, a bit thin, but gonna be great for hiking with poles or axe. Splib. |

Elo Gringos,
Any one got any secret supplier or magic brand of gloves they can tell me about for shooting on the hill. Last season I went through about 5 pairs of flimsy inner silk gloves and my hands were still freezing when temperatures in fernie were getting close to -25. I need warmish gloves with enough grip to hold and use a 30D. Come on pro's share the tricks peoples fingertipps are at risk here!! |
