I used to go there in the summer (many moons ago) I had my car with me but I'm pretty sure there was a free bus running from Kaprun village.

The bus service in the winter was fine and i would assume it would be the same in summer.
Actually, as far as transport goes Kaprun v Zell wouldn't make any difference, as you would need a bus from either (fair enough Kaprun is about 15mins closer), and its the same bus service that does both.
I only passed through Kaprun on the buses, and it seemed nice enough, but from what I gather Zell is the most happening of the two to stay in. Zell is also right by the lake. Ach'ed sod it, just book Zell! The Eder/Victoria is reasonable, and clean enough. |

Its the best glacier i've ever been to (in my vast experience of visiting a total of two glaciers!!).
I would totally go for it - I loved Zell am See, and would love to see it in the summer - loads of other stuff to do on the lake, great bars - and just a really really nice place.
We spent two days messin about on the glacier - as a fairly good park up the top, and some natural half pipe riding lower down (which to be fair may well be gone over the summer, I dunno).
Its not the most expensive place in the world either. |

Ive been to Kaprun a few times in the Summer and its a decent glacier for a bit of boarding. Have been staying in Zell am See and in Kitzbuhel during previos visits and have always had my own transport. The village is well awake in Summer and not as dead as many glacier areas in Europe. In my view it is a better Summer area than Zermatt. With the exception of Les Deux Alpes all the best Summer areas are in Austria. Stubai and Hintertux as well as Solden ,Dachstein,Kaunertal etc . If you have your own transport it is good to drive around and visit a few of them. Garmisch in Germany and Val Senales in Italy are another of my favourites. |

folks - i am going to get some glacier riding in and have the chance to go to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier at Kaprun. Question is whats the resort like to stay in during the summer months? has anyone been there? am i better off going to Zell am See and using the bus service? - is there a bus service in the summer?
Or is the glacier pretty poor, the resort too quiet and small, and should i head to Zermatt like always?!!!?!!?! Someone must've been there in the summer months to answer all these..................HELP!! |
