| depends how good you want the quality!! what is ur snappy camera? some compacts are really advanced these days! i find my SLR is amazing but im always scared to take it if im doing sports! surely theres some form of reinforced rucksack you can take with you? though i guess that would hurt more i you fell on it! it all boils down to what you want the photos for! the compacts are alot more durable and can take some alright shots!! i would take that for up on the mountain and save the SLR for arranged shots when you arent boarding! |

| I don't find them much use myself. A lot of snow stuff is fairly wide, so it'll cost an arm and a leg for a polarizer, and then you'll maybe have problems with the effect across the sky. Too much like hard work for me. Aside from removing reflections from water, I'd leave it out. |

| Oh, and a polarising filter is a 'Must Have' I guess. Have to remember that too. |

(Ooops, yeah it is a 70-200mm ,typo there)
I guess you guys are right. I'll take it and see what happens. This is my first holiday, but I have been snowboarding for about a year. I can usually mange to stay out of trouble at the snowdomes and rarely fall, and when I do it's usually on my front.
So I'll take it and leave it in the chalet for the first few days and just take the snappy, then depending on what happens, I may venture out with it. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Good point about a wide angle lens, I may have to take that too!! |

| I look my dslr to Val T last week, carried it in a burton zoom bag, and it was fine. managed to take a few scenic shots, and some of the park, but used a video camera whilst on the slopes. wasnt going to try using it whilst riding. |

You could always take it and leave it in the chalet for the first few days until you find your feet. If you're into taking shots of breath taking scenery then you'll kick urself if you leave it behind.
The happy snappy will be fine for takine a couple of "action" and group shots tho. |

| I'd take it for sure, you'll kick yourself if you don't. I leave my main cam indoors if it's looking flat out... of course it's not to say it won't clear up later. But as long as you don't mind the weight on your back then I wouldn't give it a second thought... actually - are you new to riding? If that's the case I'd think twice for all the tumbles you would take in that scenario... |

| If you're happy to have the rucksack you might aswell take your dslr, unless you're really worried about falling on it! Also 24-105 is so nice, but was that 20-200 meant to be 70-200? |

I carried my 350D and a 50-200mm zoom lens in my pack most days i was away lasy year - no problems. I didn't use a proper case tho - i have a side access zip on my pack and had it stuffed inside a Nuptse vest. Worked a treat and so much better for snow action shots. Got myself a 10-22mm wide angle recently for work which i'm dying to try out in the mountains... better not fall on it though. Splib. |

I'm off to Les Deux Alpes in in a week or so. I just can't make up my mind which camera to take, well to be more accurate, whether to take my SLR as I will be taking my snappy regardless. I would normally not hesitate taking my SLR on holidays, but as this is my first snowboard holiday, I don't know if I should just chill out and enjoy the snowboarding or try to combine the two. My concerns are -
1- It may get damaged 2 - It's gonna be cumbersome and restrict my snowboarding
I have a rucksack and a semi hard case for my Canon 20D which my 24-105 mm lens will fit into, but my main photographic subjects would be in the park and would need to take my 20-200mm (Edit its a 70-200mm) L IS which is a bit of a lump.
Has anyone any experience in taking their camera kit snowboarding. |
