Yup - Craig is a legend - it was a snowboarding episode of High 5 featuring him and a youngster Terje that played a big part in getting me on a board.

I'm fairly new to boarding, but the name Craig Kelly is a name I will never forget.

After watching numerous shows on the extreme channel, I watched a show where a group of people were cat boarding and one of the guides was CK. I watched the programme as i did any other snowboarding programme but at the end the narrator siad that Craig Kelly and 6 others died in an avalanche.
after watching the show, I searched for footage of CK on the net, and only then did I realise what a legend he was.
for someone to turn down wealth in favoure loved to do shows that CK did what he did and what we do cos he loved it and not for any other motive, easier said than done... and shows a lot about the man himself

It wasn't long after that i was riding the stash, and was told that it was dedicated to CK.

That's definitely Eddie Vedder singing, don't know if it's a Pearl jam track or not though. Nice sequence. I have a vid from a few years back called 'Gettin Some' which has some awesome footage of CK heliboarding, must have watched it a zillion times. stills holds up now, too. My favourite rider of all time.

Watched 'Let it Ride' last night and I Liked it. If you got into Snowboarding in the 80's or early 90's Craig was the man however if you're a new arrival it may have less appeal. To me CK in Powder is the essence of snowboarding, infact I didn't see a single rail and almost no park moves so that was pretty refreshing for a snowboard flick.

Rachie,

I do know there is a movie out 'Let it Ride - The Craig Kelly Story' (give it a Google). It's narrated by James Hetfield of Metallica and featuring music by Metallica, Pearl Jam etc (all CK favourites). I suspect it might be one of those - awesomely appropriate lyrics though.

Just watching him ride makes me want to swim the channel and walk to the Alps! Compare CK's style to Terje's run at the end of First Descent. Terje's run is awesome but it's nowhere near as smooth - it's more like CK is surfing a wave than carving a mountain. Simply awesome.....

Be safe Sinbad, seems pretty hairy up there in the Himalayas.

I can see my afternoon at "work" being spent youtubing for Craig Kelly vids.

Yup - seeing CK (RIP) on the extreme sports show "High 5" about 14 years ago or so, is the reason I'm heading off to shred the Himalayas today.
