The cover here in Chamonix is amazing at the moment, with another 40+cm dump just come down over sunday and monday. For the dates you mention you'll have flegere and Grands Montets open.

Grands Montets has the snowpark but if there is some fresh snow Flegere is just an amazing natural snowpark with windlips, cornices and loads of bumps and rollers to fly off.

gyro, check out this thread, particularly the posts by chaletlaforet:

It might be worth it for you to go to Chamonix, plus the shorter transfer is a big selling point. Depending on your level, you could probably get more out of the Grand Montet than i could.

Hope this helps...

If you do decide on Tignes, let me know where you're staying!

Lifts due to close in Tignes on 11th May. Some lifts will be closed earlier though such as the link with Val D'Isere.

I'm arriving in Tignes on 3rd till 10th. Can't wait. Snow is still falling according to snow reports, so conditions look set to be pretty good!

I looked into Chamonix too, but was advised it would be better to go to Tignes.

Virtually all the tignes lifts were open first week of may last year, obviously this is snow dependant but theres been more this year than last so i cant see any reason why theyd close earlier.

Where would you go late season Chamonix or Tignes?

Because we are going very late season (1st to 6th May) many of the lifts will be closed in Chamonix and I have heard that more lifts may be open in Tignes.

Does anyone know if this will be the case? and which lifts will be open the latest?
