Not sure to be honest chip - just quoting snow-forecast.com - & that could easily be wrong.

610cm base?!!..

I think that might be including the glacier itself.. Canadian resorts that get 30 foot plus of snow (Whistler & Fernie for example) only achieve around 3 metres max' base in a season...

It has been a great season so I could be wrong but it sounds unlikely to be just this season's snow....

Argentiere has a base of 610 cm on the upper slopes - with over a foot forecast between Sunday & Tuesday. If I wasn't so broke ......

They often need time to change the layout of the glacier, move stuff about, fix stuff, the summer set up will be different than the winter one

I suspect cos people are on holiday in the summer = enough business.. May to June = not enough business so not viable to stay open..

The later you leave it the worse conditions are likely to be.. really hot summer days will turn 'snow' to porridge within minutes of defrosting it..

QUOTE (Hodude - 16/04/2008 @ 11:09:05)

Lifts due to close in Tignes on 11th May. Some lifts will be closed earlier though such as the link with Val D'Isere.

I'm arriving in Tignes on 3rd till 10th. Can't wait. Snow is still falling according to snow reports, so conditions look set to be pretty good!

why do the lifts close if this is a glacier?? and a summer snowboarding destination?? now i am confused? so is it better to wait until june/july than to go in April/may?

Andy.
