Yeah I was looking at Argentiere, and we will have a car so getting to other ares wont be a problem.
I am undecided though between Chamonix and Tignes. Cham would be better because it is closer to Geneva but i'm thinking there will be more lifts open in Tignes, and its probably only a couple of hours further away....I think. |

id have to agree. Argentierre struck me as a really nice place for a base, especially if you dont have a car. I stayed in town which is both good and bad. good that loads of bars and restraunts and vibes are around you...bad that most of the people are hooray henrys (soooooooo many english people) and whatnot. Also we had car so travel not a problem. Hotels croix blanc is right in the middle of town and cost me 25 euro a night which you cant complain at. |

Hotel Couronne, Argentiere. Stayed there lots of times and its ideal for a short break. |

| Definitely Argentiere unless you will have a car. Some good pistes off the Index, and a couple of good touring routes accessible by hiking from there if you have a guide and the snow is still up to it, but the best snow in May will be at the Grands Montets. |

And very nice it is too!
Bakery nearby to grab some brekkie on the way to the lift. Hairdresser in Argentiere ain't bad either! |

Going out to Chamonix on the 1st May for some very late season snow.
Because only a few lifts will still be open then, has anyone got any suggestions on where is best to stay?
The lifts close on these dates:
-Le Tour, Brevent, Flegere; 27th April. Note the Flegere Cable car, plus Trapp and Index chair will run until the 5th May -Grands Montets 11th May -The Midi is not due to close
We will be there from the 1st to the 5th of May. Never been to Cham so any advice would be great. |
