QUOTE (Silver Star - 15/04/2008 @ 01:58:26) i worry now having read all of these posts - all my equipment is burton, boots, bindings, board......i am a noob tho but hope nothing's gonna fall apart on me They're good, but I'm just thinking that their stuffs are overpriced.
QUOTE (Silver Star - 15/04/2008 @ 01:58:26) Not all Burton boards are made in Austria - some models are made in Vermont, others in Canada. And some in Indonesia, China as well.
QUOTE (Silver Star - 15/04/2008 @ 01:58:26) Decreasing quality? I have ridden Burton boards (among others) for about 10 years. I can't notice a difference in quality between them during that time. Never owned Burton boots but I have had my share of problems with 32, Vans, DC etc. My current Burton bindings (07 Cartels) are pretty bombproof but I've broken Burton bindings in the past (along with Rides and Flows). I didn't mention decrease in quality other than bindings.
What I said was that there was little innovation and development of new technology. What change did they make in Custom X? Vaporskin, nothing to do with performance but weight.
You need to look at what other companies are doing regarding their bindings. Sure, there are so many bindings made in China, but you need to look at Salomon bindings to appreciate quality they adhere to, not to mention the effort they're putting into development. Relay XLT, ERA technology, and so on.
Burton? Same old capstrap, 2-piece binding design. Similar material, different design. Vapour and T6 are good boards, but you can get much better value for choosing brands such as Sapient, Lib-tech, Capita, Zion, Prior and so on. Considering the percentage of market they're holding in snowboarding industry, they only managed to win a few awards at Transworld Good Wood test.
QUOTE (Silver Star - 15/04/2008 @ 01:58:26) Given the places I ride I would rather have the Burton warranty than try and get parts for Catek, Unions or whatevers if they break in Smithers or Alaska! Why, are they going to fly in some parts specially for you? Good luck! The best thing you can do when you go to these places is to bring spare parts, and that applies to every bindings.
QUOTE (Silver Star - 15/04/2008 @ 01:58:26) LOTS of stuff is made in China these days - to say that it is all crap compared to stuff made elsewhere is overgeneralizing IMO. My understanding is that some companies do manage to make some quality stuffs in China.... But I wouldn't name burton among them, especially regarding bindings. Sure, very light, very comfy (I owned 3 burton bindings) but it's all same plastic and nuts that join the whole binding and highback... I do not see the advantage of Burton's binding design other than weight. It is already reported that white C60 highbacks are quite susceptible to fracture. The binding's fundamentally some piece of plastic with some carbon in it with some fabric and metal rachets and they charge people almost $400 for it!
I used to own burton stuffs, like custom, mission, CO2 bindings, Custom X board, moto boots and so on. Not bad, but when I shopped for more stuffs I could find really good stuffs for less then what I would pay for burton. Nothing seriously wrong with burton, just overpriced considering the quality and performance. That's all. |

It may have been 4 or 5 years ago, but Burton DID make some good stuffs. Burton Dragon (now Custom X), when it first came out, was the coolest board! Light and stiff
But since 2004, things kinda went downhill when Burton moved the factory to Austria and mass-produced binding in China, not to mention absence of real innovation. It's all the same sh#t now, small changes only. They're not bad stuff, but one has to wonder whether the prices they're charging are justified; the money probably goes to those pro-snowboarders and not much into developing stuffs. That's why they have 48 hour warranty policy, they know their stuffs are gonna break quite often.
Ian, the change your binding is made in US is really slim, almost to zero... or if you have a proof that the binding is indeed made in US, you're more than welcome to post a pic. Nice try, though...

Haha.... please be easy on him. The binding's sold anyway.
And actually, Burton made some really good quality bindings in US until they moved the factory to China.
If that bindings that he sold were made in US, quite a good deal. Capstraps don't look to bad either, looks definitely more decent then what Burton sell us nowadays (I owned custom, mission and CO2).

Ah well too late now. All I can say is regardless, they are a fantastic binding and much better than others I have used. The quality is fantastic regardless of the comments.
It would have taken too much time to prepare special Ebay sales listing descriptions. I just want to sell them for a decent price.
If anyone bids, they will not be disappointed with these, trust me.
Thanks for all your comments

high quality leather straps that you just do not see on middle range bindings (wetting myself laughing)
Ian - have you not ridden many different bindings ? Nearly all marques use leather straps (or leather combo) on almost all of their ranges... Seriously though, if you weren't sure what to write for the Advert, you should have asked and someone round here would've been only too happy to help (or copied the spiel from the Burton site). It just reads plain silly and Large bindings really aren't suitable for a "size 6 or even smaller" boot. |
