| Have seen next years Burton catalogue and the majority of their range is gonna be ICS. That's why I bought this years Custom X in the sales as I didn't want to buy new bindings aswell. It's hiding under my bed till next winter!! |

He's full of sh*t and needs to study his product.
If you buy the board you get a set of two disks that fit inside any regular burton binding.
It has two sets of screw holes, that has different positions to move the binding towards each edge.
It's basically the same as an EST binding, but inside the disk hole.
You cannot, however fit an EST binding to a regular board. |

Has anyone out there ridden one?
Yes. 09 Vapour with CO2 ESTs. No noticeable difference in feel, quicker setup of bindings.
Just happen to hate Burton bindings and love my Rides!
Common issue! Can you mount non-Burton bindings onto an ICS board? Yes, with some messing around. Should you do it? Probably not. Will you be covered for a broken disc, broken board or broken leg as a result of mixing non-Burton bindings with ICS? Definitely not.
Come next season they wont make the Custom with anything but EST either.
08-09 Customs (and, in fact, almost every ICS board) are also available in non-ICS versions.
Personally it's all marketting hype, like 3-hole system (now they're saying 3-holes aren't as good as 2-hole?).

Next years Custom is EST as i had a ride of one at the Brits last month. Quite a few of the Burton team had them there.

I'm definitely certain that bindings from Salomon, Burton (with UniDisc), K2 can fit into EST system. I've used all these bindings and yes, it is possible.
Gradually, Burton will replace 3-hole to EST system (there's already talk that they will produce Custom X using EST system next year).
Personally it's all marketting hype, like 3-hole system (now they're saying 3-holes aren't as good as 2-hole?). Alpine boards have used 4-holes for ages and haven't had problem such as controllability at high speed (that's what alpine boarding is all about).
I think the reason they're pushing for new binding system is that they cannot produce any new (and meaningfull) technology other than light weightedness for their boards, so they will produce bindings that will only fit their boards, and vice versa. |

| I went in, but they wheren't overly willing to demonstrate how they connect the 4 hole to the EST board... But they did confirm that that u can use ur Ride slotted base plate to attach ur bindings to the board... |

Why don't u go down to BBC the next time ur at MK (or ur local board shop) and ask them to show u how they attach standard 4 hole bindings to a EST board.
I saw a vid on t'internet and they suggested that the EST system helps allow the flex to continue all the way up the board. |

I dont give a stuff about EST (whatever that actually means) bindings, as far as i can see its a pointless idea, why anyone would need to change their bindings on the fly by a quarter of a millimeter is beyond me. And having watched the instructional video on the Burton site i really cant see its any quicker than a regular binding. Burton themselves say the new system isn't about the feel of the board its about the easy of setup and alterations to stance, both of which as i just said...i dont care about. They also say it works fine with regular Burton Three hole bindings and doesn't put extra pressure anywhere.
But...as i said....whatever binding set up they use its the board i was interested in, its shape, flex etc etc etc.....not the quickness of changing the setup by the minutest increments. If they made it with a regular binding mount id go for that...but they dont........and come next season they wont make the Custom with anything but EST either.
And EST bindings cost 250 quid which is stupid money and .....and as i already said, i hate Burton Cap straps!!
So all in all i was after advice on if its was possible to fit one to the other, but anyway it was just a question...but thanks for your opinion, its been very helpfull |

Surely that would put too much pressure on the front of the bindings and would defeat the object of EST with it's rapid stance change setup.
The board would have to be stupidly cheap to consider giving this ago... or just buy EST bindings too! |

I was told by a guy at Subvert at CFe that you just mount the two fixing screws through the four hole base plate while it is vertical in the binding (cross ways to the board). The way it was explained to me was that in any normal situation, even on a four screw system, there is only pressure on two screws at any one time.
I'm not sure that you would get the same performance from a none-EST set of bindings tho. |
