you dont have to buy. stores have demo boards specifically for this. demo boards are sold off cheap at the end of the season.

Try as many as you like. Not only is it the best thing to do but its actually expected you will try a variety to make sure you make the right decision.

Most of the shop staff will also have ridden the boards when they arrived so ask them for their oppinion on similar boards to try aswell

You said S&R charge £15 to demo, is there any obligation to buy, or can you just test one or two boards?

snowdomes have them on demo nights. The reps from the companies are also there to give advice and chat with.

Demo nights wont tend to happen for a few months yet. They tend to happen when all the new stock is in the shops.

QUOTE (philw - 04/07/2008 @ 14:02:56)

Alternatives are to go to "demo tents" which the manufacturers usually have set up here and there

Any pointers as to where they might be, specifically..?

You shouldn't really buy anything you've not ridden. You won't generally have to pay if you buy a board. Alternatives are to go to "demo tents" which the manufacturers usually have set up here and there. Those tend to be better as they're usually free and you can ride just about anything from any manufacturer if you're at a good one. The only catch is there may be a queue.

Just to add, you usually have to leave a credit card with them as security, same for Subvert at CFe. But S&R charge to demo, 15quid I think.

Right I've never heard of it, I like the sound of that... so that's a good plan, but, say if you find a board that's unusual, and there is no demo, is there any way of being sure it's good, or is it a bit of a lottery?

you demo the board on a slope. I.e. TSA allow you to take the board on the slope in the snowdomes for a session to try it. If you buy they refund the price of your slopetime.

Many companies have demo nights where there is a host available to try. Last year there was a technine demo night at tamworth. There was also a ladies board test at the our camp night. The two seasons demo night had burton and rome and a host of others.

Ride also had a demo night.

How do you test a board in a shop, short of jumping around on it??
