I'm finding backside 1s easier on switch than regular, but really struggle with frontside 180s from switch to regular, so I don't think it's as simple as saying one side is easier than the other
looking up the hill before I jump seems to be the key for getting it right
ta for the tip on body rotation, that's the weird part of it - took me a while to get my head around that
Once I'm happy with those, then the next thread will have to be about landing 360s |

| Well there's a reason why a lot of the big spins you see are switch........ |

I definitely don’t think it’s generally the case that switch 1s are easier than natural. I find natural 1s much easier. I could do natural bs1s for about 10 years before I started doing them switch, and I still can’t do them switch with anywhere near as big or as fast as I can natural.
I’m also with Legionnaire that I find switch backside a really weird feeling – I have to really concentrate on what I'm doing if I want to do them right.
However, I’m well aware that many people find 1s easier switch and I think you’re right on the reasons why. |

| Switch rotations are easier than regular rotations as you're body is naturally trying to correct itself round to the way you normally ride as well as it being easier to ride out forward than backwards.. I learns switch 1's before 1's....at the start i always used to over rotate backside 1's which seems to be quite common as we are all scared of catching our heel edge and landing on our arses. |

You dont need to look all the way back up the slope for a 180, but since you are just starting doing them... what you are doing sounds fine.
Get a good feel for it, and after a while just pressure on the toes before take off will bring it round.
Gowd, I usually hate doing switch backsides, mucho wierd feeling to them, anyways keep up the good work! |

I find with b/s1s that it’s really hard not to over-rotate if you spin your head right round 360, but I manage this by landing them looking slightly backwards (maybe about 60 degrees off), rather than taking off that way. Obviously, once you’ve touched down you then want to look where you’re going again pretty quickly. I suspect this is slightly better than looking back first, but I’m no expert and I’ve never tried it your way.
I’m very aware of how much difference this makes, as I still have to make a conscious effort with switch b/s 1s to avoid doing the complete head rotation, otherwise I end up reverting back on landing, which really doesn’t look very good. |

if it works for you and your arms arent flailing about while in the air then dont worry about it ,
when you pop it round just concentrate on tighting your core so your body all spins at the same time . |

Afternoon all
Last week in Tignes I started practising backside 180s on flat pistes
I ride regular, but did them on switch
So I'm riding switch and rotate my body 180 degrees anti-clockwise
I also tried buttering them around as well
I seemed to find it easier to jump them round if I looked behind me, over my left shoulder, up the piste just before I rotated my body, while moving along at a reasonable pace
Does this sound correct? It seemed to work OK after a while - only one bad fall where I was glad I had on my wrist guards |
