I didn't know you could get intermediate lessons as well - i thought you had to do private coaching after you're at a more recreational level (or is this what you meant?)
I agree though - i think if i ever get to a stage where i've been on a few boarding holidays and maybe even a season - i'd want to have a pro iron out the bad habits i'd have picked up - a bit like coasting up to every roundabout when driving - out of laziness and bad habit!
i cannot remember who said it but - you should never stop learning! (might have been fatbob scouting for more people to get lessons with him! ) |

Spider baby after reading your profile if your going to be a vegetarian at least eat a healthy veggie diet, soft landings and wear wrist guards
WTF!!!!!! I've never once been or pretended to be a vegetarian in my entire life!
let it be known - this spider orders her steak rare and sends it back demanding a brand new rare one if it doesn't come out COVERED in blood and red inside pink towards the edges and the outside has just been 'shown' the pan. Then I dip my chips in the steak blood just to annoy my partner who finds this all very disgusting. I eat an EXTREMELY healthy diet - incorporating beans, pulses and various grains into every day and on average i eat around 7-8 portions of my '5 a day fruit and vegetables' I wake up every morning to fruit that I have blended myself and believe that EVERYTHING without compromise should be home cooked from scratch. (unless it’s the once/twice a month takeaway treat from the Chinese and even then I just have rice and bean sprouts!) I think mothers who feed their kids nothing but ready meals and chicken nuggets and chips should be brutally mutilated on account of child abuse. (oh my god is this girl still ranting!)
DONT half-ass read my profile and then make some crappy statement which touches a nerve! I'm intolerant to milk - hence why I avoid dairy and to counteract the lack of calcium I eat curly kale on a regular basis because this has more calcium in it than milk measures (most vegetables do infact) My profile just mentions my arthritis and anaemia - which are medical conditions I suffer with and I eat EXTREMELY well in order to combat these AND take the following; Cod liver oil - for the arthritis Evening primrose oil - for the loss of blood and bad excruciatingly painful periods I also suffer from. Ginseng extract - to keep my anxiety levels down (I also suffer from Obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety disorder and have been prescribed valium but I take ginseng and the occasional valerian root tea mixed with st john’s wort instead to avoid having to use the valium) multivitamins + iron - for the anaemia and finally Echinacea - to ward off nasty colds and help with my immune system. this is better than vitamin C apparently.
Despite all my health problems I do my best to combat them and then ignore them. Snowboarding is my way of attempting to say ‘fuck you’ to all my health problems. (I have impact shorts and wrist guards too) I thank you - rant over.

Next time I go away I'm definitely going to get myself an intermediate lesson. I think I need someone with experience telling me what I'm doing wrong and how to sort it out. |

I totally agree with that... there's so much more to riding that you just cannot get in a snowdome. I've just come back from riding with a group which included a real beginner who could reasonably link turns in the fridge but when we stuck him on a mountain he had a nightmare - said everything felt different and was side slipping most of the way down...
You can sort out the technique to a certain extent in the domes, but don't be surprised when it all goes out the window on the slopes. |

| There is no way you can get to a true intermediate and definetly not an advanced standard in a snowdome. Past learning the very basics of carving or even just basic linked turns, it will be very dependent on the instructor as to how useful a lesson in a snow dome is, as Fatbob said. For most people tho, the biggest improvements are going to be learning to deal with lumpy pistes, cat tracks, steep gradients which means lessons and practice on a mountain. |

You can sort out bad technique in a dome as Matt says, but courses like Ash's are not standard courses. Most courss get you up to linking turns, there is nothing really after that.
Mountain riding is completely different to an indoor environment as you don't have the changes in snow, terrain, gradient, etc. In an indoor environment you can get to know exactly where to turn. I always advise people to have a lesson on the mountain after a finisher at Tam. |

I just found that once I put the goggles on, the lack of spatial awareness really threw me. They were borrowed from a friend and are Trespass - pink lenses. I spent all week either in sunglasses or squinting against the blizzards! I think I need to try a different pair. I htought is was just me - but judging by your responses, its not an uncommon problem. I did have a lesson in Plagne and although the guy was great, he struggled to explain stuff in English so I didn't get as much out of it as I'd hoped - although he did make some difference. I guess the end of the season is upon us so I might have to satisfy myself with MK for a bit before I can get on the mountains again. I'm determined not to give up! |

The goggles - was it cos they were uncomfortable or because you couldn't see properly?
Uncomfortable - get new goggles that fit comfortably, and fit with your helmet (assuming you wear one, if not you probably should). Try on lots of pairs, and if you're a girl maybe try and find some female-specific ones (although I'm a girl and have a small face - I have to wear 'youth' glasses because the adult ones are too big! - and I found some of the Spy goggles - Orbits and Soldiers I got from TK Maxx - fit me pretty well).
If you can't see - what color lenses did they have and what was the light like? Because different lenses suit different light conditions - for low light you ideally want yellow or maybe pink goggles because they improve the contrast, if it's sunny something that blocks a bit more light to protect your eyes. If they were fogging up - might be that the goggles are not very good, or that you're sticking them on top of your head when not wearing them which makes this worse, or you're breathing into them too much. If it was neither of those things but you still couldn't see right, try some more expensive goggles with shaped lenses - you can get a bit of distortion and a narrow angle of vision with cheaper lenses. TK Maxx is your friend here if you're on a budget! |

About the goggles - just keep trying! I was riding with Oakley O frames, and it was only after the 3rd or 4th day that I was as confident with them, as I was without them. They're not the best for spatial awareness though (lucky I'm a boy, eh! ) and I don't think my brother got used to his at all.
