I'd say that is a one off - whilst they do try and run their mail order side of the business from the upstairs bikeshop of busy Toymaster shop, (i've visited the shop to collect bike after numerous phone calls to get it delivered) I'd give them a second chance....mistakes happen - it could have been a friday afternoon 4:50 - lets f*ck off to the pub moment, send him that one we got back last week - (no excuses I know) and I don't work there....
On a positive note, they do often get some stonkingly cheap deals (don't know how) so always bear them in mind. |

Hi
I don't work for Winstanley either, but I recently brought a Kona Lisa 2007 from them which was delivered to France for a good price, they were really helpful and spent time advising me which bike is the best for my needs, can't wait to get back to Switzerland and ride some real mountains. |

| Have you rung them up and checked it's available?! See post 25, Winstanley's are notorious for having bargains on their website which they can't get stock of, they then, once you ring them, offer a higher priced alternative, which is often still a good deal but not the bargain you think you're gettin! |

| Hehe - I'm looking too - fixed up my old bike from 10 years ago but it's a bit small and crap. Got me in the mood for some serious fun though. Looking at around the £500 mark (GT Avalanche, Giant XTC 4.5 at the moment...) |

| that ktrak look freeking awesome! would love to have a go on one of them... can see the powder issues though, stick a nice big fat ski on there and then one of the double rim wheels on the back that they use on the iditabike race and you're all set! |

An interesting idea... from the traction thing it looks like it's supposed to work like a skidoo... not convinced it'll work, but for downhill only on piste it's pretty much already sorted.... this from a speed course, doing about 130 klicks...

Not that a bike like that would be about as useful on the streets of London as a road bike would be on that snow. |

Cheers Phil, I'm gonnan head down on Saturday and try a few things out as they have a pretty good range.
I see what you mean though, different tools for different jobs. As I'm new to biking I just want something that'll do it all to a cetain extent until I figure out what type of riding is for me. I'm definately not gonna spend much time on the road with it though! |

QUOTE (paulm - 27/05/2008 @ 16:21:40) Alu and steel are so 90s, I want one of these: Ah, back to the 1970s for you then... titanium frames were not uncommon in the late 1970s amongst club-level racers ;-)
Otherwise, well it's kind of like snowboards: you need to decide what you want to do, then get a bike which does that. So a bike which is good at downhill is not really what you want for cross-county, and neither is going to be that much fun on the road. I have, let's see, about a dozen bikes in my garage for that reason. Ok, you don't need to go that far, but you want something different for commuting; for riding on UK mountains; and for North American-style downhill riding.
But most "mountain bikes" are never used off road and consequently spend their days performing a bit like a tractor on the M1, or a Fish at MK.
As with boards, just ride a few bikes which you're thinking of and then choose the one which works best for you. You may be surprised at the differences. |
