#1 Any recent news on Cervinia? 29/06/2009 @ 21:38:02 |

Hi has anyone else been to Cervina, please?
I've been reading this post, but it seems quite old now.
Any more up to date news on what it's like? On the one hand I don't really trust what the brochures say, but on the other hand if I can have hours of fun in the snowdome, it shouldn't really matter where I go as long as it's a mountain with enough snow on it
Thanks in advance. |

i went to Cervinia in 1994 - i just read the thread you linked and it sounds like it was back then.
i guess the mountain hasn't changed an awful lot which is the main draw for the resort. high snowsure, good lift system (though this might have changed) and really well pisted, wide long cruising reds. intermediate heaven. i seem to recall ventina being a great red run as well as the run from the top of platta rossa down to valtourneche (red too) as being a gas.
if you're an improving begginer/cruising intermediate you'll love it. |

weather was great - for me. dumped it's arse off for 3 days solid.
here's a fact i was told about cervinia -"the average skier is on the slopes for an hour and a half". it meant when i was there i only saw two other groups out during that 3 day period. there was untracked three foot deep pow everywhere including under the drag lifts. rest of the time i was there bluebird every day.
but that was a long, long time ago.
i think the higher you go, to get more snowsure, the higher the risk of adverse weather shutdowns. i dunno if this is fact, just a gut feeling. |

QUOTE (rog-g - 01/07/2009 @ 21:41:16) i think the higher you go, to get more snowsure, the higher the risk of adverse weather shutdowns. i dunno if this is fact, just a gut feeling. Wind speeds increase with altitude so your gut feeling is correct. |

Countered by the snow quality as this tends to improve also with altitude, due to less freeze thaw occurrences. |
