I`d recommend Les Balcons (been twice) or Val 2400(once) Both are very nice places in a quieter part of town. They provide more square metres for your money but still work out cheap if you can get close to filling them. Still only a few minutes walk in to the heart of town. They are ski in/ski out if the snows good but a word of warning...........beginners won`t like and probably won`t attempt the ski in option as it tends to turn in to a bit of a mogul field by the end of the day. In which case they will have a wait for the free ski bus or a 5 minute walk uphill (its not too steep and this is the option most our beginners took).

Have also stayed in the Cheval Blanc a couple of times which is cheaper and arguably in a better location. Definitely ski in/ski out for all. Its perfectly ok but not as nice or as big as the others.

They are usually on quite a few sites but i`d recommend www.skicollection.com.

hope this is of use, good luck.

Try skiline.co.uk, you should be able to get a good deal before Xmas, although I'm not sure if they do self catering.

Does anyone have a chalet recommendation for Val Thorens?

I'm looking for a self catered, ski in, ski out, sleeps 12.

We'll be going the week before Christmas.
