Ok so I have just bought a pair of Vans Encore boots, discount price from the states
So I guess the next stage would be a board....I am will be spending 99% of my time at the CFe so I thought I might go in the direction of a Burton Dom? These boards seem to have massive reviews and look ok for a beginner like myself?
Anybody have any views on this and possible bindings to complete the setup... |

1. Buy boots first and ones that fit. People will say what they use are the best. Sure listen to them, but try on as many pairs until you find the right ones for you.
2. Test out some boards or ride rentals a bit longer so as to find out what you like in a board. I would not recommend a Custom for a new rider. I have seen many people on advanced boards that shouldn't be on them. An advanced board will hinder rather than help.
3. Buy bindings once boots and board have been purchased in that order. |

| Thats as long as they are right for an individual persons foot...never buy boots before trying them on, we are all different shapes and what works for one wont work for another. |

Only thing I can assist with is boots...
I got a pair of 32 Prospect and they're brill !!
With 32's you've got the most basic, the Prion, which I felt were a bit 'wobbly' so I tried the slighly more expensive Prospect. Quite a bit stiffer and more supportive, and generally felt like a better boot. In the shop they felt good, I wore 'em a few times around the flat to break 'em in as instructed by the bloke in Ellis Brigham and they felt pretty awful (!). Generally quite tight and actually painful in a couple of areas. But I stuck with 'em and after 2 days on the slopes it was like wearing slippers.
They're the only two pairs I've ever tried, so I have no frame of reference I suppose. But if there's a better boot out there for a hundred quid I'll eat my hat. |

Pete, If you are mainly riding at Cfe then use the trial gear as much as you can from snow & rock. try as many different combis of board and binding as you can, take notes about what feels good and what feels s**t. As for boots - if it feels comfy straight away chances are it's too big - you should at least feel a little tight with a new pair of boots and they will pack out as you use them. Hope this helps Enjoy the ride |

THe Custom is a veeeeeery advanced board, im all for buying something to grow into but if you get a board thats too advanced it can actually hold you back...and scare the living sh*t out of you at speed! |

Greetings everybody,
I have seen around here that now is the time to buy gear, being the end of season and all. I have just taken up boarding and am looking for some direction with which gear....
Firstly some details bout myself, Im about 5'8 and 70 kgs, I will be spending the majority of my time at the chillfactor in Manchester....
Board From what information I have gleaned so far, I am looking at a Burton Custom or Forum Recon....I am lead to believe that the custom is a good board and will give me something to grow into as my skills progress, but the Forum is ok for people like me too? Anybody have any preference to either of these or maybe another I havent heard about? What size should I be looking at 155?
Boots I have tried a pair of Vans Fargo on and they fitted like a dream but I have nothing to compare against, I intend to try others but rather than trying every pair in the shop, where would be a good place to start for a soft boot? Soft boot is correct being a noob?
Bindings No idea what so ever, suppose it would depend on board and boots?
Anyway enough of my inquisition, all help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance |
