SameSun isn't too bad in Fernie...

(SameSun Banff was a different matter where even entering the communcal kitchen was scary and luckily there was no light in the rooms so you couldn't see really how dirty they were)

A group of 8 of us shared this one "room" which contained our own kitchen, bathroom and a smaller room with 4 bunks in it.

One of the couples had their own ensuite room that was pretty nice

They've a hot tub which was pretty clean when we were there.

The pool had been filled with snow to make a mini (very mini) half pipe.

I think i will rule out the infamous 'Ranging Elk'! Anyone stayed at the 'Griz Inn'?

Any other less smelly recommendations would be welcomed!

I was there the same time as Azzie and can confirm that it does indeed reeeeek! But the comfort of the beds is mattress dependant. I made sure I snagged a good'n ( to Ally).

Also pancake breakfast is included and I think they have a shuttle bus up to the hill (not 100% sure about that as we had our own rides!).

It was exactly what I had expected of a hostel tho. It was only ruined by the fact we'd spent a the previous week in the best hostel in North America!

The Raging Elk Hostel is just off the highway, next to The Pub, has some parking, great kitchen/lounge area, etc.. and cheap.

The only downside is the stink in the bedroom corridor - with everyone's boots on a rack at the end of it it smells feckin unbelievable..

If you have time, and you're going via 2 and the Crowsnest Hwy, hit Castle Mt on your way there - a really great little hill for a day (also with a small hostel at base).

  #1 Accomadation in Fernie - Recommend Some!! - Please!  04/07/2008 @ 21:53:01
I intend to spend a few days in Fernie when I visit Calgary. I am looking for somewhere to stay, cheap and cheerful would hit the mark. Location is not that important as I will have transport - Recommendations please!

Thanks in advance!
