Crash7 is 100% right. If you're going to find any nightlife stay in Morzine. Also agree that the reputation of apres-ski is a bit exaggerated. Hardly Pacha.

I've only ever stopped for a couple of cheeky beers in Avoriaz before boarding back down to the Prodant Lift car park and it was pretty dead.

Stay in Morzine and you have the pick of the bars, decent supermarket and access to the huge PDS ski domain and easy access to Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Get.

My tip is to get the bus up to the Prodains lift, but avoid the cable lift and take the old rickety lift up. You drop on to a red and maybe a blue, and then take an express lift right to the top right side (looking at the map) of Avoriaz. You miss all the queues around the resort. You can then choose to head over to Chatel or drop back into Avoriaz for the pipe or Stash.

There is no nightlife in Avoriaz worth visiting, the village is group of purpose built ski in/out hotels.

As already stated you NEED to stay in Morzine. From Morzine you can get on the Super Morzine gondola which takes you directly to the Avoriaz side of the mountain. And you also have access to the Morzine lifts which take you to Morzine mountain, strangly enough, and Les Gets.

Both lifts are in the centre of Morzine and easily accessable. NIghtlife in Morzine is alright, no ski resort has great nightlife regardless of what anyone tells you. Try Robinsons for apres and later on move to the Budda Bar and then the bar below it, I forget the name and then to the Opera night club that is next door.

i've not been out after dark in avoriaz to be honest, but from what other people have said you'll be ok for a week, but much longer and you'll start to want a larger choice. i know theres a few bars and at least one club, bowling alley and a few resturaunts (chez flo is great for lunch, imagine it would be great in the evening too)

personally i'd say go to Morzine instead!

you still get to ride the PDS, but you ahve the advantage of a better choice of places to go in the evenings, including Bar Robinsons!
