just going riding is the fallback option - which aint that bad really! but id really like to get the structured training every day and get to spend time on the hill, learn more about the job as wellas get a little beer money. it may also mean get a better chance to take on any positions that open up through the season.

what you say could be a good sign tho! as it may mean that fewer people go for it...

I was told by a BASI Trainer that when he went over to NZ, you have to pay for the 'trial' and even if you got the job pay was crap. He ended up just riding for the season.

Yeah NZ seem much tougher to get a job in - which is kindof a downer as im pinning my hopes on it!! (not sure i will get many opps to do teach seasons in future as im getting on - 31 aaah!

and dong this as a career break). have you applied anyway?

i get the impression NZ resorts can pick and choose the best as its not that big and instructors flock there from northern parts. im wondering if i have put too much blind faith into thinking i will eventually get something! Ive read about people with my level of (in)experience getting jobs out there tho so not sure what to expect!

Most of the NZ websites i've come across look for about 2 years experience, they all seem to be the same which is rubbish...I was thinking of doing a few season in Canada to get the experience they need and then applying.

Hello peeps,

have always referred to this forum for bits of advice but now need some advice on something i cant find much info on and hoping some kind soul can help me out!

Has anyone landed an insuctor job in NZ through the hiring clinics/rookie instructor clinics where you turn up at start of June and are assessed for a couple of days to get a rookie teaching job (only seen them in treble cone, mt ruapehu and remarks so far)? How hard is it and how many people get turned away vs those who land a job?

I think its my best chance to land a job as everywhere ive looked require much higher quals and experience than i have - i got my CASI 1+2 on an instructor course in '06 but not got any treaching season under the belt yet as ive only now decided to jack my ole job in and season it in NZ!

Ive applied every resort anyway but most want homegrown quals or very experienced foreigners!!

any advice or experience welcomed!!
