Me and the hubbie did a season in 06/07 in Breckenridge, USA, and got the bug so now we want to live abroad for a couple of years. We've got the BUNAC visa for our first year, I'm a newspaper journalist which is one of the many jobs in need for BC so hopefully after 12 months my employer will sponsor me for a temp work permit for the rest of the time abroad. Not sure where we'll end up as it depends where I can get a job, as long as it's snowy I'll be happy

I am going to Big White for a snowboard instructor course with the Snowskool people

I am sorting my own flights from Scotland cause there is no way am flying from London.

Leave on Jan 10th, Glasgow to Vancouver

Then get an internal flight on Jan 12th to Kelowna

The course finishes on March 27th and I have booked a return from home from Toronto on April 17th (I might extend this though depending on cash)

So aye, no idea what I am doing after the course but I will feck about for a while anyway.

Are you going for a season man?

RE nationwide flex account... We got into a stupid loophole where we had a cash card a/c, put all our savings into it ready for our season, but then because we weren't using it as a current a/c with regular payments in and out, they wouldn't let us upgrade to a debit card. The branch said that as we had opened it online it meant we couldn't appeal or something, don't know if they were just trying to tout business off the web though.
My advice is to go in branch and ask a human to get it sorted rather than wait 7 months and find you can't have a proper a/c.

I think they will only send cards out to your home address.. If you have someone there to forward it that's the best way.. or change account address to your parents/other and get them to do it..

I know....I guess I could still open the cash card one the now. 7 months will be up in Jan anyway and thats when I will be going to Canada then I could apply for the Debit card...Might be tricky getting it shipped over, maybe not though.

Weird - the opening page says you get a card you can use abroad.

just found some stuff, you can only get a debit card one once your account has been open and in use for 7 months apparently

I Have already got a antionwide credit card but no current account with them. Just tried to apply for one online and it says they will only give me a cash card. Why are they being idiots! I need a fricken Debit...cash card is no use abroad eh? or are they just calling it stupid names to get me confused?

The One Show had a review of debit and credit cards this evening.

Cash purchases, it was American Express.

Post Office and Nationwide came out tops for debit cards, as did Thomas cook credit card, Abbey Zero and Nationwide on the credit card side.
